This Lilly Pulitzer dress is the Demi style and the print name is Belle of Lillyville. It was a derby print back in 2005/2006. The white label of Lilly Pulitzer tends to run smaller than the modern pink label so this dress fits more of an 8/10 opposed to a true 10.

Any time I'm thrifting I'm on the lookout for any and all Lilly Pulitzer, I love her for a bunch of reasons, the obvious one being that we share the same name. The less obvious one being how Lilly built her iconic fashion label we all know and love today.

Lilly was a socialite, married to a very wealthy man named Peter Pulitzer. They lived in Palm Beach and owned a bunch of orange groves. Lilly decided to open a fruit juice stand there. The juice stand was thriving but Lilly's clothing was not. Stained with all different sorts of juices, Lilly needed to find a solution. One day she went to her dressmaker and asked her to make a dress that would mask the juice stains. Customers began to obsess over her new dresses, referring to them as "Lilly's", and requesting them with a side of grapefruit juice. Lilly realized there was a real market for her unique, fun, and vibrant shift dresses and launched her brand in 1960.

Lilly's designs were being photographed on Jackie O, the Vanderbilts, etc. Soon, every women in America had to have one of her creations. Everything seemed to be going well until 1984. Lilly was noticing a decrease in profits and decided to file Chapter 11. Pulitzer stated, "I started it as a lark, and I followed my whim. It worked for 25 years, but it wasn't going to work forever." 10 years went by and we saw nothing from Lilly. It was in 1994 that Lilly decided to sell her Lilly Pulitzer license, she remained in the loop consulting for the company and the brand began to see a resurgence. The brand remained true to Lilly's roots and I believe thats why it continues to succeed. Until Lilly's death in 2013 no fabric or print went through production without her approval.

When I put on any of my Lilly Pulitzer frocks I feel like I'm transported to a different era, to a different place. I love that although the times have changed, Lilly's designs haven't. Always whimsical, always unique, and most importantly, always true to Lilly.

Here are some random facts about Lilly that I love:

1. She was a scorpio

2. She was classmates w Jackie O

3. She only designed summer clothing stating that it was always hot somewhere.

4. She went Comando almost always
